Kailash Mansarovar Yatra by Helicopter – 9 Nights / 10 Days – Day-wise Itinerary
On arrival at Lucknow Airport, our representative welcomes you and your spiritual trip begins. You'll be driven to Nepalgunj, a gateway town in western Nepal, about four hours away. The evening is free for rest and personal time. After hotel check-in, a group briefing for the yatra is held at 7:30 PM before the trek begins. Note: plan for an early arrival into Lucknow.
An early morning flight from Nepalgunj to Simikot (50 minutes) takes you to a secluded town encircled by the Himalayan ranges. Simikot, accessible only by air, is a crucial stop for acclimatization before entering Tibet. Spend the day relaxing and adjusting to the altitude. Overnight at Simikot. Note: flights are subject to delay or cancellation due to weather. If a flight can't take place, an optional day trip to Bardia National Park is available at your own cost. Early hotel check-in is subject to availability, and shared or non-attached rooms may apply if the property is fully booked.
After breakfast, take a short but exciting 20-minute helicopter flight from Simikot to Hilsa, on the Nepal–Tibet border. A short walk leads to the immigration office for border formalities. After clearing, you'll meet our Tibetan staff and travel by vehicle to Purang (Taklakot), a small town in Tibet. Overnight in Taklakot.
After breakfast, drive around 88 km (roughly one and a half hours) to reach sacred Lake Manasarovar, considered the most sacred of the Hindu lakes and believed to wash away sins and elevate the soul. Begin a parikrama of the lake by vehicle and take in the peaceful surroundings. Overnight in a guesthouse near the lake. Accommodation here is basic, multiple-sharing, non-attached rooms. If you wish to hire a pony or porter for the Kailash Parikrama, contact our local guide on this day — availability can be limited due to high demand, and we are not liable if one cannot be arranged.
Spend the morning in spiritual practices on the banks of Lake Manasarovar — pilgrims can take a holy bath and perform pooja, havan or meditation. Afterward, pass through the striking Rakshas Tal en route to Darchen, the base camp of Mount Kailash. Overnight in Darchen while preparing for the Kailash Parikrama.
After breakfast, you'll be given a packed lunch to carry with you. First, a 15–20 minute drive to Yamadwar, the starting site of the Parikrama. Day 1 is a comparatively easy 12 km trek taking 4–6 hours depending on the individual, offering darshan of Kailash Parvat along the way. Overnight at a tea house in Diraphuk. Pilgrims who cannot do the Parikrama stay at a Darchen hotel with some extra cost. If permitted, you may visit Astapad for darshan of the South Face — this is also where the first Jain Tirthankar, Guru Rishabhdev, is believed to have attained enlightenment.
The toughest day of the yatra — a 22 km trek crossing Dolma La Pass, one of the highest passes in the world at 5,630 metres. The first 8–10 km are the most difficult; once past the pass and the first tea house, the remainder to Zuthulphuk is easier walking. Overnight stay at Zuthulphuk.
After breakfast, complete the final 8 km leg of the Parikrama (around 3 hours) to Chongdo, where vehicles will be waiting. From here, travel back to Darchen to rejoin the rest of the group. After lunch, head toward the Nepal border — if time permits, immigration formalities are completed and the group crosses back to Hilsa; otherwise the night is spent in Taklakot.
Fly to Simikot and onward to Nepalgunj in the morning. This day is kept flexible to accommodate weather-related flight delays. The rest of the day is free to relax on arrival at Nepalgunj. Note: early hotel check-in is subject to availability, and hotels may vary due to weather-related booking constraints.
After breakfast, drive back to Lucknow for your onward journey as your spiritual trek concludes — with lasting memories of Lake Manasarovar, Mount Kailash and the spiritual experiences along the way.
