According to mythology, the Pandavas sought out Lord Shiva after the Mahabharata fight to plead for forgiveness for the misdeeds they had committed on the battlefield, but Shiva had no desire to pardon them. He then transformed into a bull and travelled to Uttarakhand's Garhwal region. Shiva submerged into the ground after being discovered, and various pieces of his body were discovered in various locations. Kedarnath was one of the five locations where the Pandavas managed to have a temple built.
