We travel from Leh to Spituk on a dirt jeep route through a parched and exposed area. We'll arrive in the Zingchen Valley after about an hour's drive, where the Rumbak River falls into the Indus, which rushes through a massive gorge. Rumbak, a lovely settlement with 15 families, is located further down the valley.
It's only a short walk from Rumbak to our next camp, but it's a crucial one in terms of acclimatisation, as we'll be camping at a high elevation tonight and crossing the high pass the next day. As a result, we will not rush and will take our time arriving at the camp at the base of Ganda La. We'll come upon the village of Yuruche, which has only one family, after a short hike from the camp. The views of Stok Kangri and the entire Stok range are stunning from our campsite.
We'll start our 2-hour trek towards Ganda La after a brief breakfast (4900m). The top of the pass is marked by the traditional Chorten and prayer flags, while the surrounding slopes are home to blue sheep, marmots, and argali. Views of the distant Himalaya Range and the lofty Zanskar Range are very spectacular. We'll take a short break before descending to Shingo and stopping for lunch. We'll end the day with a 2-hour hike through a magnificent gorge before setting up camp in Skiu (3300m). An historic monastery and the remnants of an old castle, once a rest stop for the Royal family on their route to Srinagar, are located within this lovely settlement.
We'll follow the Markha River through the picturesque valley on a somewhat simple walk. The trail travels through winter settlements with Lhatos (local deity religious shrines) and Mani walls, crossing the river multiple times (stones inscribed with Buddhist prayers). During peak season, a number of tented teahouses will be open for refreshments. With roughly 20 residences, a mediaeval monastery, and a damaged fort, Markha (3800m) is the valley's principal village.

The Markha valley route continues through historic stone mills, a ruined fortress, and Techa's auspicious monastery, which boldly sits atop a rock overlooking Markha. After then, the path crosses the river numerous times before cutting through the valley's final hamlets. We'll get our first glimpse of towering Mt. Kang Yatse (6400m) after leaving the settlement of Umlung, and it'll stay with us until we cross Kongmaru La. We'll stop for lunch in Hangkar (the valley's last settlement) before continuing on to the stunning green meadow of Thachungste (4100m), where we'll set up camp.
Today's trek will take us to Nimaling, a magnificent plateau where locals from the Markha Valley bring their herds to graze during the summer months. Nimaling (4700m) is the highest camp (4600m) on the trek, providing superb views of Kang Yatse to the right.
We will cross Kongmaru La (5200m), the highest crossing on the walk, after a substantial breakfast, and will have a spectacular view of the Indus Valley and Ladakh Range from here. The slope is fairly steep, but when we approach Shang Gorge, with its magnificent rock formations, it will gradually level out. More river crossings await us before we reach Chuskurmo's sour spring (used in traditional medicine by the Amchi doctors). Shang Sumdo is a great place to spend the night.
We'll take a 2-hour walk down a jeep road to Martselang, where we'll be picked up by a jeep. On the journey to Leh, you'll have the opportunity to see some of Ladakh's most famous monasteries, including Thikse, Hemis, and Shey.
Please drop off at the airport. Our representative will drop you off at the Leh airport in time for your flight.
