Arvind Kejriwal, the chief minister of Delhi, announced on Wednesday that a 30-day Delhi Shopping Festival would be held from January 28 to February 26. (in 2023).
“This will be the biggest shopping festival in India. We are starting it now. I expect that in a few years, we will make it the biggest shopping festival in the world,” Kejriwal said.
The shopping festival, according to Delhi’s chief minister, would strengthen the local economy and support small-town entrepreneurs, vendors, and dealers.
“People will be invited from across the country as well as the world to experience Delhi and its culture. This will be an unparalleled shopping experience. Heavy discounts will be offered. Entire Delhi will be decorated. Exhibitions will also be organised,” CM Kejriwal said.
The CM went on to say that the “Shopping Festival in Delhi ” will also generate a significant amount of job opportunities and he urged people all around the nation to get tickets for the following year. “This will create thousands of jobs and will give a huge boost to the economy,” he added.
Arvind Kejriwal claimed that he is negotiating reduced airfares with airlines for travellers who want to attend the Delhi Shopping Festival.
Separately, Kejriwal claimed that the figures were the “greatest demonstration of its honesty,” citing a CAG study that claimed the Delhi government was making money.
Despite maintaining a revenue surplus, the Delhi government’s debt climbed by around 7% in the four years leading up to 2019–20, according to the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report for the year 2021.

According to the report, the Delhi government’s revenue surplus for 2019–20 was $7,499 crore, showing that the government’s income receipts were enough to cover its revenue expenditure.
Because the central government is covering the employees’ pension responsibilities, the Delhi government has been able to maintain a revenue surplus, it was noted.
From 1,867.61 crore in 2015-16 to 3,592.94 crore in 2019-20, the government’s spending on subsidies grew (92.38 percent). According to the data, spending on subsidies climbed by 41.85 percent in 2019–20 over the previous year.
Financial support for local organisations and others increased from 15,087.22 crore in 2018–19 to 16,232.97 crore in 2019–20, or 7.59 percent.
Due to investments made in Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Ltd., there was an increase in investment in 2019–20 over the prior year of 150 crore.
The government of Delhi lacks the authority to obtain loans on the open market. Its debt receipts are made up of the loans and advances it has gotten from the Indian government.
Countdown Starts, Start Planning Now
It will be a really happy moment, according to Arvind Kejriwal, not just for the people of Delhi but also for the rest of the nation and the entire world. Because tickets might not be available later, those who are from outside Delhi should make plans to visit Delhi in February from now on and get their tickets.
Delhi will host the 30-day Delhi Shopping Festival from January 28 to February 26 of 2023. The country’s largest retail event to date will be this one. I’m hoping we can make it the biggest festival in the globe in the upcoming years. For this, planning and preparations have been ongoing for the past few months.
